  3. The FS6Patch INIT installs a small patch on the File Manager under System 6. There is a known bug with HFS on System 6. Adding data to existing QuickTime[tm] movies can cause the bug to occur. To install the FS6Patch INIT, just drag it into your System Folder.

When the bug occurs, it can cause multiple files to share the same space on the disk, thereby corrupting the disk. The exact situation under which the problem occurs is somewhat rare.  However, since the patch takes less than 200 bytes of memory, it is recommended that you install it. If the patch is not necessary, it will not install itself.  If it successfully installs, it draws its icon along the bottom of the screen at boot time.

  7. The problem has already been fixed on System 7. The patch will not install itself on System Software earlier than version 6.0.4 .
